This page provides some general information regarding how to get current information about the medication(s) you are currently using or may use to treat your allergy, asthma, sinusitis or other disease symptoms.
Since information on medication is often updated or changed it would be best to check that sites that are well maintained by interested parties.
1. Contact the medication manufacturer:
For example if you are using Advair Diskus for treating your asthma you could contact the manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline. Since you might not have the company website on hand (it might be on the medication packaging if available), simply go to Google, Yahoo or similar search engine and type in "Advair." In this example you would find www.advair.com which would give a comprehensive summary of the medication actions and side effects. Also check the site map of the company website to help you efficiently find the specific information you need.
2. If you cannot obtain the information you need from the manufacturer or cannot locate the manufacturer, the following are a list of other general sites with information about medications:
www.drugs.com
www.rxlist.com
www.medicinenet.com
www.webmd.com
www.healthcentral.com
www.drugdigest.org
www.mayoclinic.org
3. Ask your pharmacist for a print out of the "fact sheet" for any medication dispensed to you.
4. At the end of each office visit ask your doctor to explain how your medication works and about its potential side effects.
